Bioluminescence: emission of light from a living organism
Blocking antibody: antibody which does not react with the antigen but prevents others from accessing it
Dendritic cells: immune cells which process antigens and present them on their surfaces to other cells
Flow cytometry: laser-based technology used to characterise or sort cells based on physical or chemical characteristics
Haematopoietic cells: multipotent stem cells which give rise to all blood cell types
Immunofluorescence: visualises antibody-antigen specific interactions which are labelled with fluorescent dyes
Macrophage: associated with host defence through phagocytosis and adaptive immunity
Neutrophil: a type of white blood cell involved in inflammation
Phagocytosis: the process by which macrophages engulf and internalise other cells or solid particles
Prognosis: likely outcome of a disease
Tumour: an abnormal growth of neoplastic cells
Xenotransplant: transplantation of cells of one species to another
